Idli Wada at Wadeshwar Reviewed

Food reviews online are a mixed bag. They range from 1 stars to 5 stars. In all of this, the real customer, who wants to taste the best food, gets into a dilemma. FC Road's Wadeshwar is one of the most popular food hubs at Deccan, Pune. Does it deserve the popularity? With this review, you, the customer, will get out of the dilemma I was talking about earlier.

Environment:

2 PM afternoon. After strolling through FC Road, a relaxing place to sit and eat is all a shopper wants. Wadeshwar is a perfect destination for these shoppers; and on that day, I was one of them. Both indoor and outdoor seats are available. Outdoors are filled with umbrellas with tables and chairs underneath. Fans having water spray functionality are placed above, in such a way that some of them directly spray on top of the diner's head/face when sat down. Overall, the environment is great and refreshing.

Note: Sambar and Wada contain Onions, Tomato and Coconut pieces.
Wadeshwar is mostly known for its south Indian snack options. The Idli-Wada dish comes in a generous serving. One large idli along with two small Wadas, that's what you get. For my regular lunch appetite, the Idli-Wada meal was perfectly filling. I would say it is almost as filling as a regular Maharashtrian Thali meal.

The Idli and Wada were both well cooked. Sambar was not too spicy but definitely not bland. Idli was a bit too large but that much of a rice portion is what makes the meal so filling. The Wada contains small coconut pieces stuffed inside and it is worth praising its rich, crunchy-yet-smooth texture. The coconut chutney served along is also great. The chutney definitely introduces balance in the palette, making it a complete meal.

Overall, it is one of the finest Idli Wada dishes you can find in Pune city. The quality is unmatched. Honestly, I think some of the other restaurants are overrated. Wadeshwar's Idli Wada Sambar is tasty and appetising.

Cost: Best choice for a cheap mid-day meal?

This dish is definitely one of the best options for a pocket-friendly yet filling lunch. At Rs.80, I think it cannot get any cheaper. For just Rs.80, its quality remains unmatched. In short, if you are hungry, short on money but want to eat something that will fill your tummy to the fullest then Wadeshwar's Idli-Wada Sambar is your best choice. The best thing is that it won't hurt your gut later. Many places serve low quality stuff that later results in stomach-ache. I think this won't be an issue here because they use good ingredients and personally I felt that the food standard remains their priority.

Idli Wada Sambar Rating: 8/10.
